About Oxford ELLT Express
Same-day Speaking slots
Normally, speaking tests must be booked at least 24 hours in advance. However, if examiner availability allows, you may see same-day appointment slots when booking your test.
Subject to examiner availability
These slots are only offered when there is sufficient time for examiners to review your written test before conducting the speaking assessment.
Speedy results
Once you have completed both parts of the test, your results will be marked and reviewed by our examiners and academic team, with results issued within 12 working hours.
How it works
Sign up
Sign up for the Oxford ELLT as normal, either by paying directly or using a voucher code.
Start your test
Complete the 3 sections of the test you can do solo: the Reading, Listening and Writing sections.
Book your Speaking test
Now that you can book your speaking slot, see if there any “Oxford ELLT Express” slots available (between 2 and 24 hours in advance).
Pay
If you select one, you’ll then be asked to pay for the extra service before completing your speaking test booking.

Get your results
Look out for an email about your results – you should receive it that day or within 12 working hours.

Potentially Asked Questions
No – they only show if examiners have availability.
But if they are not available you should still get your results back faster than with comparable English language tests involving actual human examiners.
If it is cancelled you’ll be offered the choice of booking another Oxford ELLT Express slot, or gaining a refund on the Express upgrade and then booking a normal speaking test.
If for some reason – such as delays with your passport verification – you do not receive information on how you did in the test within 12 working hours then you will be refunded the cost of the Oxford ELLT Express upgrade.
Where possible we will endeavour to send you the information on the outcome of your test that day. That, however, may not be possible on weekends or UK public holidays. The working hours are UK business hours.
As with a normal Oxford ELLT test, if the academic team marks your test then decides that the work was not done authentically, they will withhold your result. There are no refunds in this scenario.
With a normal ELLT speaking test students are allowed one free reschedule if they change the slot more than 24 hours in advance. But that is not an option with Oxford ELLT Express because it’s booked less than 24 hours ahead. However, students can pay for a reschedule in a normal speaking slot (for £30), or buy a whole new Oxford ELLT Express for a quicker one.
At this time, no, because of how we need to schedule it with physical test centres.
A retake would be treated as a new booking, so no. If you retake the reading or listening sections then you would receive results within 48 hours as normal. But if you retake the combined writing and speaking then you could upgrade to Oxford ELLT Express again.
Unlikely for now, because our human examiners need time to mark your written work first.
